Polar Extremes is a concept album. The “A” side is “inside the mind” and “B” is “Outside the mind.”

“A” starts with the introspective “All in my Head”, moving to the upbeat “Cruisin’” and then to “Polar Extremes” and “Apolitical Journey,” concluding with an arrangement of the classic “Lone Prairie” tag originally written by Norman Luboff.

I wrote the songs in the “B-side” together, drawing much of my influence from the B-side of Abbey Road, in which each song flows into the next. They are meant to be listened to back-to-back, though can also work as standalone songs. “Fleeting Thoughts” is meant as an interlude between the two sides of the album. It carries many of the same sentiments from “A” with more of the jam feel from “B”. “Clarity” was written at a time in my life when I found much clarity in my world view. I wrote “Obscurity” during the COVID pandemic and the lyrics refer both to the climate crisis and the state of the world in March-April of 2020. “New Horizons” is a breakup song, which draws inspiration from the Marion harbor in Massachusetts, and I wrote “Out on the Edge” both as a post-pandemic commentary of the current society, and as a breakup song.

Here’s what people are saying about my album:

“Kaz! Your B-Side suite is absolutely incredible and everything you said it would be. It really does sound like the backside to a prog rock album in the 60s or 70s! Your songwriting -- music and lyrics -- is exceptional and unique. But most unique is your vision for big picture projects. It's rare for students to have a vision for one song, let alone a suite of songs that fit together conceptually and musically. Really well done. I can't wait to hear the whole album master.”
